Top 10 Gratitude List:  Leeton R-X School District

As we reflect on the progress, partnerships, and achievements of the past year, we are reminded of how fortunate we are to be part of such a dedicated and supportive school community. The following list highlights 10 things we are especially grateful for at Leeton R-X School District, each representing the people, programs, and values that make it a great day to be a Bulldog.

1. Record-Breaking APR Scores: We are grateful for achieving an 81.7% APR, the highest in Johnson County and one of the strongest in district history. This accomplishment reflects the collective work of our students, staff, and leadership.

2. Exceptional Teachers and Staff: Our teachers, paraprofessionals, support staff, coaches, and administrators display tremendous dedication every day. We are thankful for their commitment to academic excellence, student growth, and building positive relationships.

3. Transformational Grant Awards: We celebrate an outstanding year of competitive grant success, including: Stronger Connections Grant – $372,000 (Year 2), DAF STEM Grant – $20,000, Northrop Grumman Drone Grant – $15,000, MOQPK Early Childhood Funding – $90,000. These funds strengthen instruction, enhance safety, expand STEM learning, and increase student supports.

4. A Supportive and Proud Community: Our families, alumni, businesses, and community partners continue to show pride in and support for our schools. Their involvement helps create a welcoming, connected, and student-centered environment.

5. Student Achievement and Hard Work: We are thankful for students who work hard, demonstrate character, and participate fully in academics, activities, and athletics. Their energy and Bulldog spirit drive everything we do.

6. Expanding Student Opportunities: This year we celebrate the growth of exciting programs, including: Expansion of STEM curriculum and drone programming and strengthened early childhood options through MOQPK. These opportunities broaden students’ experiences and open new pathways for their futures.

7. Strong Leadership and Vision: We appreciate the steady guidance of our Board of Education and district leadership. Through CSIP redevelopment, facilities planning, and financial stewardship, they continue to shape a strong and forward-thinking district.

8. Safe & Welcoming Schools: We are grateful for continued improvements in school safety and campus security, including: Enhanced emergency planning and response readiness, School Resource Officer (SRO) partnerships with the City of Leeton and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department. These efforts reinforce our commitment to maintaining safe, supportive learning environments for all students.

9. Financial Stability: We are thankful for a strong 40% reserve balance and responsible fiscal management that safeguard programs, protect staff, and allow for thoughtful long-term planning.

10. The Leeton R-X Spirit of Community and Resilience: Most of all, we are thankful for the unwavering belief that every student matters and every student can succeed. The resilience, unity, and heart of the Leeton R-X community continue to make our district a place where great things happen every day.

A Bear, A Book, and a Big Dream

Dear Leeton Parents and Students,

As we usher in the New Year and anticipate the onset of colder weather, it becomes imperative to address the possibility of snowfall in our weather forecast. Annually, one of the superintendent's challenging responsibilities is determining whether to cancel school for the day, dismiss school early, implementing an alternate methods of instruction day (AMI), or uphold regular schedules in the face of inclement weather or other factors affecting student safety. This decision, although informed by various considerations, ultimately relies on a subjective judgment call.

Upon reaching a decision, the Leeton School District will disseminate a broadcast to parents and guardians in our Infinite Campus SIS system.  This communication will complement announcements on television news stations, radio, our website, and social media platforms. Whenever feasible, decisions will be finalized before 10:00 p.m. the night before or by 5:15 a.m. on the day of a no-school occurrence. We trust these timeframes will provide you with timely information while accommodating your schedules as much as possible. In the event you do not receive a text/call or notification, we recommend checking alternative channels, as phone service reliability may vary.

In instances of early school dismissal, notifications via call/text and social media will be promptly issued to afford you maximum time for planning. As with no-school days, parents/guardians are responsible for making necessary arrangements in response to changes in the schedule.

Should you, as a parent, deem it unsafe for your child(ren) to attend school during inclement weather, rest assured that the decision remains within your purview, and the school district will respect it. However, all absences will be recorded, with only verified weather-related absences (resulting from canceled bus routes) deemed "excused." The determination of whether an absence is excused or unexcused will be made by the building principal.

Students who typically rely on bus transportation are urged to continue doing so during adverse weather conditions, as it remains one of the safest modes of travel to and from school. Similarly, if you personally transport your child to and from school, maintaining this routine will contribute to the day's normal operation, to the extent possible.

For any inquiries or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your child’s principal or myself. We welcome the opportunity to discuss this inclement weather plan with you and appreciate your ongoing partnership.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
