This weeks "a day in the life" is brought to you by Mrs. Foulk's second grade class!
In phonics we are learning about that Bossy "R" (ar, er, or, or, ur,)
In writing we are learning how to write a narrative. We are learning how to make our sentences longer and more interesting to read. We are currently finishing up our turkey narrative stories about "how to save the turkey on Thanksgiving Day".
In ELA we have started a unit on animals. We have learned about cold and hot climate animals. We are currently reading about animal habitats and will be doing a project at the end.
Our social studies is about the different Indian tribes. The students have looked up info on food, clothing, weather, land, housing and compared them with another group. They will be dressing up a person to resemble their Indian.
In math we have finished up adding 2 digit plus 2 digit with regrouping. This has proved difficult for some and so we will continue to practice this skill. For now we have started our money unit. Learning about each coin and how much they are worth. We will be practicing how to count it and the students will have the opportunity on Fridays to buy items at the class store to practice these skills.

Welcome to Leeton Elemtary's "A day in the life..." This week our featured class is Miss Bays' 5th grade!
We started our week off with DARE on Tuesday morning, as we do each week. This was our last DARE lesson before our graduation in a few weeks!
This week in ELA we worked on our vocabulary words for the week and identifying the theme of stories. On Tuesday, we worked on using our vocabulary words in sentences. Students were to go to each vocabulary word that was hung on the wall, and use it in a sentence. We then read a story with those vocabulary words, and identified the theme, or lesson of the story. Students filled out graphic organizers to help keep their thoughts in line. Today, students played a Blooket review game to review their learning before they were tested on their comprehension of the vocabulary words and the story.
In social studies, we studied the events leading up to, and the reasoning for the Declaration of Independence. Students read to better understand the Declaration of Independence in their textbook, and then today they wrote a break up letter to King George III and Great Britain from the point of view of the American Colonists. We learned how the British were taxing lots of different goods, closing ports, and sending redcoats in to stop colonists from moving west, as just a few reasons for the “break up”.
In math, we are learning all about adding and subtracting decimals, and sequences. Lastly, students ordered off of a pretend menu and were asked different questions, making them add and subtract money. This gave them a taste of a real world situation!
It was a great week in 5th grade!
