Dear Leeton Parents and Students,
As we usher in the New Year and anticipate the onset of colder weather, it becomes imperative to address the possibility of snowfall in our weather forecast. Annually, one of the superintendent's challenging responsibilities is determining whether to cancel school for the day, dismiss school early, implementing an alternate methods of instruction day (AMI), or uphold regular schedules in the face of inclement weather or other factors affecting student safety. This decision, although informed by various considerations, ultimately relies on a subjective judgment call.
Upon reaching a decision, the Leeton School District will disseminate a broadcast to parents and guardians in our Infinite Campus SIS system. This communication will complement announcements on television news stations, radio, our website, and social media platforms. Whenever feasible, decisions will be finalized before 10:00 p.m. the night before or by 5:15 a.m. on the day of a no-school occurrence. We trust these timeframes will provide you with timely information while accommodating your schedules as much as possible. In the event you do not receive a text/call or notification, we recommend checking alternative channels, as phone service reliability may vary.
In instances of early school dismissal, notifications via call/text and social media will be promptly issued to afford you maximum time for planning. As with no-school days, parents/guardians are responsible for making necessary arrangements in response to changes in the schedule.
Should you, as a parent, deem it unsafe for your child(ren) to attend school during inclement weather, rest assured that the decision remains within your purview, and the school district will respect it. However, all absences will be recorded, with only verified weather-related absences (resulting from canceled bus routes) deemed "excused." The determination of whether an absence is excused or unexcused will be made by the building principal.
Students who typically rely on bus transportation are urged to continue doing so during adverse weather conditions, as it remains one of the safest modes of travel to and from school. Similarly, if you personally transport your child to and from school, maintaining this routine will contribute to the day's normal operation, to the extent possible.
For any inquiries or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your child’s principal or myself. We welcome the opportunity to discuss this inclement weather plan with you and appreciate your ongoing partnership.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
